This scene captures the essence of changing seasons in Vermont. A small family of ducks is feeding and frolicking in outer Mallets Bay of Lake Champlain. The temps are cool, the air still and the scent of leaves fills the air. This Vermont picture was recognized by Mother Nature Network (MNN.com) as one of their "stand-out shots" in their fall photo gallery 2010.

Autumn In The Valley (Champlain Islands from Mt. Mansfield)

We were fortunate to hike up the Sunset Ridge Trail on Mt. Mansfield on the last good weekend of foliage. It was a fairly sunny and 55 degrees on the valley floor. We were welcomed to the summit with frost temps, gusty 30 mph winds and lots of clouds. After lunch we returned down the trail and once we got to the treeline again the sky began to clear a bit. This is the spectacular view we saw on our way down.

As the days get shorter all creatures get a little busier stocking up for winter. This incredible Vermont picture shows a bumblebee collecting pollen on an aster flower in shimmering detail as the flower bounces in the breeze.
